Be Sunsmart!
This term is summer! Everyone needs to slip into a t-shirt to protect your skin, slop on some suncream to stop the sun from hurting your skin, and... SLAP ON A HAT! It's really important you stay safe in the sun, you never know if something could happen to you. e.g skin cancer. So always remember to slip, slop, slap! It's easy!

Book Club Reflection
My Book Club novel is: LOST
Backward-Looking:
How much did you know about Book Club before we started?
Before we started book club, I only knew 1 thing about book club. All I knew was that you had to get into a group and read books. I was very keen to find out more about book club, because I love reading.
|
Inward-Looking:
What were your goals for Reading and Book Club? Have your goals changed?
Are you on track to meet your goals?
My goal for reading was to read a big amount of pages in just a minimum amount of time. I think I am on track to meeting my goal because I have read more pages than I thought I would have been able to read. Now, I only need to read 3 more chapters.
|
Outward-Looking:
If you were the teacher, what comments would you make about your
learning so far?
If I were the teacher, I would say that I’m going great with my learning so far in reading(book club). I have been completing tasks for my role, and have also self accessed my work and made sure it was at a year 6 standard.
|
Forward-Looking:
As you look at your work so far, what's one thing that you would like to try to
improve upon?
The next time I do book club, I’m going to try to improve on talking with my friends and keeping up with them. At the moment I’m only worrying about myself and what I have to do, but not helping my friends with the things they have to do. I’m going to try and collaborate with them so they can be on track to finishing the book.

Xtra-Math Certificate
This is my Xtra-math Certificate! If you dont know what xtra-math is, it's a math website that helps you a lot with your basic facts, and also has challenges for you to test how much you know. Xtra-math has helped me a lot with my basic facts. This is my certificate I got for finishing my division basic facts! This means I have finished xtra-math because I got all my answers correct in my test. If you were wondering how I got all of them right, all I had to do is practice my division facts I didn't know, and then when it came to the test, I got them all correct. I'm really proud of myself for finishing xtra-math.Click here to visit the xtra-math website |

My Genius Hour Reflection
As we near the end of the term, reflect on the progress so far with your
Genius Hour Project.
My Genius Hour project is: Greek gods/Goddesses
Backward-Looking:
How much did you know about the subject before we started?
Before we started genius hour, I didn’t know anything about Greek gods and history. I only knew about Greek gods when my friends were talking about it, I seemed really interested when they were talking about it. That’s why I decided to do an I wonder question about Greek gods, I had a lot of wonders about Greek gods in my head. But I chose one question, that really made me think… What is a Greek god?
|
Inward-Looking:
What were your goals for meeting this piece of work? Have your goals changed as
you worked on it? Are you on track to meet your goals?
My goals are to get some interesting facts about Greek gods, not only interesting, but facts that will blow people’s minds off. With those AMAZING facts, I will put them into my own words and put them into my presentation. I’m not quite up to that yet, so now I’m going to have to do some extra research at home and before school to make sure that I am on track, and nearly to that point where my work is almost done.
|
Outward-Looking:
If you were the teacher, what comments would you make about your work so far?
I would say that my work is going great! I have started to find some really interesting facts, I have been updating my genius hour journal, and I have also done a lot of research. I think I am ready to start my presentation. But first I would have to check if all my information is in my words so that people would be able to understand it. After I do that, I will be able to start my presentation, and share all the things I have learnt so far about greek gods.
|
Forward-Looking:
As you look at your work so far, what's one thing that you would like to try to improve
upon?
I think I should try improving on talking more with my group and also collaborating with them. I think I’m focusing too much on my part of the project, and not actually helping others in my group. From now on, I’m going to do as much as possible to talk with my group, and also meet up with them to talk about how they are doing.

My MRS and HPS Reflection
What?
Today McCahon and Flox class walked up to May Road School to help them with their genius hour projects. May Road School didn’t quite know what genius hour was, so Hay Park showed them and told them. Everyone got really excited when they heard they could do whatever they are interested in, and what they want to learn.
So what?
The reason why Flox class and McCahon class went over to May Road School, is to collaborate with them and help them with their genius hour projects. May Road School needed some help with their projects, because they just found out what it was today.
Now what?
My next step is to be confident, and work with others in May Road School. At the moment, my group are my friends from HPS. I’m sometimes shy around people I don’t know. So next time, I am going to be confident and introduce myself, and work with the people from May Road School

Coding
What:
In class we have been using our chromebooks to learn how to code. We had to use our problem solving skills to control where the red angry bird goes so that he could catch the green bad guy. For example, we could do move forward then turn right.
So what: It’s good for our problem solving which is part of maths, and it really challenges us so we can get better and better at it.
Now what: My goal is to reach level 20 by the end of this week so that I could go onto even more harder levels, and so that I can develop my own game.
Cybersmart
This is my presentation about being cybersmart and how to keep safe online. I have wrote 3 paragraphs in each slide in order for you to read and follow when you are online. I hope the things I have said are helpful to you. Please use them when you are online and stay safe! :D

This is my poplet about all the things I wonder about. As you can see, I am very interested in animals because I love animals, and I care about them so much about them. I thought of some questions that are ungooglelable, which means you can't find the answer on google. This will be interesting when I try to find my information!

My Xtra-Math Certificate
This is my Xtramath Certificate. I have now moved on to multiplication! I've been on subtraction for a long time, and I realised that I haven't been practising the ones I got wrong. After that, I started to practice my subtraction facts everywhere I went. Sometimes I would write them on my hand. I'm so happy that I've moved on!
Xtramath
This is my first time getting 100 on Xtramath-Race the teacher. Xtramath really helps me with my basic facts and it's really useful for learning. You can visit the xtramath site by clicking here

My Key Competency Word Cloud
One of the things my teacher loves about me is that I am always active during class time and I always share my ideas, even when I think I’m wrong. At the beginning of the year, I wasn’t confident enough to share my ideas. After a while, when I got support from my friends, I am now able to share my ideas with the class and in little group discussions.
In class, I participate in class discussions and also collaborate with people that don’t know what to do. I am able to work as a team. I am able to ask questions because smart kids ask questions! I help my friends that are struggling with their work, and I help them by using kind words and supporting them. When we collaborate, its more than one brain, which also means we get more than one idea. And remember, there's no I in team!
Nga Manawa
This term we are learning about mangroves because its part of our school topic this year. " Kaitiakitanga" Here is my presentation about nga manawa. It indicates what nga manawa do to keep our environment safe, and information about it.

The hockey stick I won
The Hockey Stick I won!
Today I played in a hockey tournament with the girls in my school. We challenged a lot of schools, it was hard but we managed to come 3'rd place. When the hockey tournament finished, all the schools gathered up in a room. Barry started talking, he said... " This hockey stick is going to be for a girl in Hay Park School, please step forward... Rose " . I was surprised, speechless, emotional. I never knew I did that well! I was really proud of myself when Barry placed the brand hockey stick into my hands. Tears came down my face. It was just amazing. That's a moment I'll never forget in my life.Thursday, 12 June 2014

Thermohaline Currents
We have been exploring Thinglink and using it to create content to which other people can use to learn from.
This Thinglink is about ocean currents.
Three things I have learnt about ocean currents.
- Ocean currents can be caused by heat (from the sun) and salt water, these are called thermohaline currents.
- Salt water is more dense than cold freshwater and warm freshwater.
- If the ocean didn't have any currents nutrients and oxygen wouldn't be spread through the ocean.

Xtramath
In McCahon class we have been using Xtramath to practice our basic facts. The green squares mean I can answer them correctly, and the green squares with smiley faces show I've answered the question before 3 seconds.
The yellow squares show that I've answered the question correctly but I didn't answer it quickly.
The grey boxes that have X's on them are the questions I got wrong.
My next step is to practice my basic facts so that I could be able to answer my questions under 3 seconds.

My Learning Map
My Learning Map
Bula vinaka everyone! Welcome to my blog! My first post will be about My learning map which shows who, what and where I learn from. For example, my teacher Mrs Kingston. She gives very clear information so that I can understand and learn. At home I teach my little sisters their abc’s and 123’s, and they learn from me.
